The New Year
UNCHARTED ROAD!
Joshua 3:2-5 (NASB)
2 At the end of three days the officers went through the midst of the camp;
3 and they commanded the people, saying, "When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God with the Levitical priests carrying it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.
4 "However, there shall be between you and it a distance of about 2,000 cubits (3,000 ft. = about 1/2 mile) by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before."
5 Then Joshua said to the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you."

This was one of my standard New Year's texts. As Joshua was preparing to lead the children of Israel across the Jordan River into the Promised Land, he gave these directions. The ark of the Covenant was the physical symbol of the presence of God. They were to follow it/Him, but keep their distance. Before that, they were to consecrate themselves to prepare for the trip.
+++ As we come to a New Year with its challenges and unknowns, lets take a couple of lessons from this passage. 1)Commit yourself to follow God by reading the Bible to see His directions. 2) Follow Him, not the culture or latest fad.
++++ As God led Israel into the Land of Promise, He will lead us into the New Year. We may not know what it holds, but He does! Seek to know and serve HIM!
