A PROBLEM OR AN OPPORTUNITY??
WHAT DO YOU SEE?
John 9:1-8, 19-33
INTRO: The healing of a man born blind gives us occasion to ask ourselves about what we see. How do we see the people and things in our life?
WHAT THE CROWD SAW
The neighbors and friends saw a beggar!
Once a beggar always a beggar!
They saw the surface not the real man.
The apostles saw a theological problem.
Who sinned that the man had been born blind?
This was a current debate.
It is still something we try to solve.
Jesus saw a man!
-- a man in need -- opportunity to serve.
WHAT THE PARENTS SAW
They admitted he was their son.
They remembered the joy of birth and the pain of blindness.
They even acknowledged his being able to now see.
They saw an issue of security.
If they acknowledged that Jesus did it, they could be excommunicated.
WHAT THE BLIND MAN SAW
He saw the light of day. He was healed, but more
He saw a new truth, Jesus as Messiah, and embraced it.
His was a growing understanding about who Jesus is.
Man, prophet, one from God, Son of man, Lord.
