Forsaken or Victorious?

Last words #5

Mark 15:33-34 (NASB)

33    When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour.

34    At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

After 3 hours of darkness Jesus cried out! Some see it as a cry of anguish and being forsaken by God. Some think He was referring to Psalm 22, which starts with those words but ends in victory!

With these words we see the real meaning of the cross. The Bible says that God cannot look upon sin. On the cross Jesus took on the sins of all humanity. He became sin for us. He did not become a sinner, but he took on Himself the penalty of all sins, so God had to turn His back. That explains the 3 hours of utter darkness!

   He suffered that for me!
