Comfort from prayer

I Samuel 1:10-11, 17-18 (NKJV)

10 And she (Hannah) was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish.
11  Then she made a vow and said "O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head."
....
17 Then Eli (the priest) answered and said, "Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him."
18  And she said, "Let your maidservant find favor in your sight." So the woman went her way and ate, her face was no longer sad.

Hannah was anguished because she had no children. She prayed to God for a son. After her prayer it says she was "no longer sad". I do not recommend bargaining with God like she did, but I do commend her trust in God! She is a good example of trusting in God! She was encouraged and her spirits lifted, after praying -- not just when she received her desire.
She is also to be commended for following through with her vow. (See the rest of this chapter.)
Lesson: Be honest about your desires, and trust God to provide for you. He may have a better idea, but trust Him!
